Optometrists and Contact Lens Practitioners

Eye Examinations

Examinations at Watson & Smith are performed by qualified registered Optometrists. An Optometrist has to undergo a university degree course in Optometry, following graduation the Optometrist completes a pre registration year. This pre registration period involves working in practice under supervision, gaining hospital experience and finally passing professional qualifying examinations. Once qualified, Optometrists have to undergo continuing education and training to remain registered. During an eye examination the health of the eyes is assessed, levels of vision measured and the prescription to correct any eye defect is produced. The examination can also reveal some general health issues. After the consultation the Optometrist will discuss the results and advise on requirements. If spectacles are required, at Watson & Smith the dispensing will be carried out by a qualified registered Dispensing Optician.
